Water
Moderate watering. Allow the top few centimetres of compost to dry out between waterings. Water a little less after flowering and avoid leaving the plant sitting in water.
Soil
Free-draining cactus or houseplant compost with added orchid bark and perlite to improve drainage while retaining a little moisture.
Repot
Repot every 2–3 years after flowering using fresh compost. Christmas Cacti flower best when slightly pot-bound, so only move up one pot size when necessary.

💡 Joe's Top Tip
To encourage flowers, give your plant cooler nights and around 12–14 hours of darkness each evening for several weeks during autumn. Once buds appear, avoid moving the plant too much, as sudden changes can cause them to drop.
⚠️ Common Mistake
Most people struggle with Christmas Cacti by treating them like desert cacti. They prefer slightly more moisture and humidity, but dislike constantly wet compost.
