PLANT CARE

Everything you need to know to keep your plant happy and thriving.

☀️

LIGHT

Medium Light

💧

WATER

Low to moderate watering. Allow the top 3–5cm of compost to dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Reduce watering during winter when growth slows. Avoid allowing the compost to remain constantly wet.

🌱

SOIL

Free-draining houseplant compost mixed with perlite and a small amount of orchid bark. The mixture should retain some moisture while allowing good airflow around the roots.

🪴

REPOT

Repot approximately every 2–3 years, ideally during spring, or when noticeably rootbound. Watermelon Peperomia has a relatively small root system, so avoid moving it into an excessively large pot.

JOE'S TOP TIP

Position your Watermelon Peperomia somewhere with bright, indirect light to maintain its distinctive silver markings. Keep it away from cold draughts and strong direct sunlight. Water around the compost rather than allowing water to collect around the crown of the plant.

⚠️

COMMON MISTAKE

Overwatering or using a pot that is too large. Watermelon Peperomia has a relatively shallow root system and can develop root rot when kept in constantly wet compost. Always check the moisture level before watering.

PLANT FACT

The Watermelon Peperomia gets its common name from the distinctive silver and green stripes on its leaves, which resemble watermelon skin. Although its leaves look similar to those of some succulents, it is a tropical plant that prefers moderate humidity and carefully controlled watering.
