Water
Low watering. Allow the compost to dry out completely between waterings. Water thoroughly, then allow all excess water to drain away. Water very sparingly during winter when growth slows.
Soil
Very free-draining cactus and succulent compost with added grit, pumice or perlite. Excellent drainage is essential.
Repot
Repot every 2â3 years in spring or when noticeably rootbound. Move up only one pot size and always use a pot with drainage holes.
Humidity

đĄ Joe's Top Tip
Give your Monstrose Prickly Pear as much light as possible. A sunny windowsill is ideal. If moving it into stronger direct sunlight, introduce the increased light gradually to reduce the risk of scorching.
â ď¸ Common Mistake
Overwatering. This cactus stores plenty of moisture within its fleshy growth and would much rather remain dry for too long than sit in wet compost.

đż Plant Fact
The word âmonstroseâ refers to an unusual mutation of the plant's growing points. Instead of producing the predictable pads associated with a normal Prickly Pear, this form develops irregular, distorted growth. That means no two plants develop exactly the same shape.
