Description
Dracaena fragrans ‘Tornado’, commonly known as the Tornado Dragon Tree, is a compact and distinctive houseplant with glossy green leaves that grow in a dense, twisting spiral around the central stem. Its unusual curled growth gives it a neat architectural appearance, making it ideal for desks, shelves and smaller indoor spaces.

WATER
Low to moderate watering. Allow the top few centimetres of compost to dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Dracaenas cope better with being slightly too dry than sitting in constantly wet compost.
SOIL
Free-draining houseplant compost with added perlite to improve drainage and airflow around the roots.
REPOT
Repot every 2–3 years in spring or when noticeably rootbound. Move up only one pot size at a time and always use a container with adequate drainage.

JOE'S TOP TIP
‘Tornado’ will tolerate lower light levels, but medium to bright indirect light will encourage stronger, healthier growth. Keep it away from cold draughts and avoid leaving the roots sitting in water. If possible, use rainwater or filtered water if you regularly experience brown leaf tips.
COMMON MISTAKE
Overwatering. Dracaenas don't need constantly moist compost, particularly during winter. Allowing the upper section of compost to dry between waterings will significantly reduce the risk of root rot.
