Plant Description
Description
Cyclamen persicum, commonly known as the Florist’s Cyclamen, is a colourful flowering plant with beautifully patterned, heart-shaped leaves and distinctive swept-back flowers in shades of pink, red, purple, and white. Flowering through the cooler months, Cyclamen are perfect for brightening windowsills and cool indoor spaces when many other plants have finished flowering.
PLANT CARE
Everything you need to know to keep your plant happy and thriving.
LIGHT
Medium Light
WATER
Moderate watering. Keep the compost lightly moist while the plant is actively growing and flowering, but never waterlogged. Ideally water from below by standing the pot in a shallow dish of water for around 10–15 minutes, then allow it to drain. Avoid pouring water directly into the centre of the plant.
SOIL
Free-draining, nutrient-rich houseplant compost with added perlite or grit to prevent waterlogging around the tuber.
REPOT
Repot after the plant's summer dormancy when fresh growth begins to appear. Cyclamen prefer a relatively snug pot, so only increase the pot size when necessary.

JOE'S TOP TIP
Keep it cool. Cyclamen perform best at around 10–18°C and dislike hot rooms, radiators, and warm windowsills. Cooler temperatures will help the flowers last considerably longer. Remove finished flowers by gently twisting and pulling the entire stem from the base rather than cutting it halfway down.
COMMON MISTAKE
Keeping Cyclamen somewhere too warm is one of the biggest reasons they decline quickly. They are cool-season plants and can struggle in centrally heated rooms.
WHEN TO COME BACK TO US
Bring it back (or a photo) in 4–6 weeks if you want: • Help extending the flowering period • Advice on summer dormancy • Help getting it to flower again • A general plant health check
PLANT FACT
Cyclamen grow from a swollen underground tuber. After flowering, the plant can naturally die back and become dormant during warmer weather before producing fresh leaves and flowers again when cooler conditions return.
