Water
Low watering. Allow the compost to dry out completely between waterings. Water thoroughly, then allow all excess water to drain away. Water very sparingly during winter when growth slows.
Soil
Very free-draining cactus and succulent compost with added grit, pumice or perlite. Excellent drainage is essential.
Repot
Repot every 2â3 years in spring or when noticeably rootbound. Move up only one pot size and always use a pot with drainage holes.

đĄ Joe's Top Tip
Give your Eveâs Needle the brightest position possible. A sunny windowsill or conservatory is ideal. If moving it from lower light into strong direct sunlight, introduce it gradually to prevent scorching.
â ď¸ Common Mistake
Overwatering, particularly during winter. This cactus stores water within its thick stems and can tolerate extended dry periods. Permanently damp compost can quickly cause rot.
đ When To Come Back To Us

đż Plant Fact
The monstrose form is caused by abnormal growth at the plant's growing points, producing the wonderfully unpredictable shapes rather than the more uniform stems of standard Austrocylindropuntia subulata. Each specimen effectively grows its own architecture.
