Description
Hoya australis ‘Lisa’, commonly known as the Hoya Lisa or Variegated Wax Plant, is a colourful trailing or climbing houseplant with thick, glossy leaves patterned in shades of green, cream, yellow and pink. New growth often emerges with beautiful reddish-pink tones before gradually developing its mature variegation. Its compact growth and colourful foliage make it an attractive choice for shelves, hanging pots and climbing supports.

WATER
Low to moderate watering. Allow the top half of the compost to dry out between waterings. Hoyas store water in their thick leaves and prefer drying slightly rather than constantly damp soil.
SOIL
Free-draining epiphytic mix made from houseplant compost, orchid bark, and perlite. Good airflow around the roots is essential.
REPOT
Repot every 2–3 years in spring if rootbound. Hoyas flower best when slightly pot-bound, so only move up one pot size when necessary.

JOE'S TOP TIP
Give ‘Lisa’ plenty of bright, indirect light to maintain its strongest cream, yellow and pink colouring. Once it develops flower spurs, leave them attached after flowering because future blooms can develop from the same spurs.
COMMON MISTAKE
Overwatering or keeping it somewhere too dark. Constantly wet compost can damage the roots, while insufficient light can reduce the colourful variegation and result in weaker growth.

PLANT FACT
As Hoya australis ‘Lisa’ produces new foliage, the leaves can emerge in vivid shades of pink and red before gradually changing to their mature green, cream and yellow variegation. Mature plants can also produce clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers.
